Week 5 - Steels, Scaffolding and a Rather Large Water Tank

Our new house will have floor-to-ceiling glazed walls facing south and west, designed for solar gain and views of the garden. These walls are framed with steel posts and beams.

Three posts were moved into position and erected using the telehandler (expertly driven by Ady). Each post was bolted to the top of the concrete foundation strip.

The two beams were then balanced on the forks of the telehandler and lifted to the top of the posts.

The beams were bolted to the posts using the pre-manufactured flanges and later welded into position. Expert skills on show from the "steelmen" Gavin and Daz from Broadland Products.

On the same day as the steels, TCG from Long Stratton installed our "single-lift" scaffolding around the house and garage.

Last mention on this post is the arrival of our rainwater harvester. We want to economise on our use of mains water so plan to catch rainwater from the roof and use it to flush the loo, feed the washing machine and water the garden.

So we ordered a 7500 litre tank that we can bury at the back of the house. And this was its delivery .. another job for the telehandler. Digging a big enough hole will be another story.
